PRESS RELEASE

New Thermal Control Unit from WELLS-CTI
Allows Cost Effective Thermal Control of Semiconductor Devices under Test

Vancouver, WA Nov. 3, 2009 - WELLS-CTI an international manufacturer of burn-in sockets and thermal solutions has added a new low cost Thermal Control Unit system to its portfolio of Thermal Solutions.

WELLS-CTI’s new Thermal Control Unit (TCU) system is the industries leading thermal management solution for temperature control during the most demanding requirements. The system is comprised of a thermal control head, a stand alone controller which can be integrated into a PC using the proprietary “TCU View” software and a chiller to provide the cooling fluid

The TCU standard system boasts a temperature range capability of -40°C to +125°C and a temperature stability of +/-0.1°C by using direct contact with the Device Under Test (DUT) to control the temperature of the IC’s or modules. This “conductive” contact provides more accurate and stable temperature control across a broader range of test conditions than any other solution. A test engineer can now have confidence that the DUT temperature during test is accurate regardless of the power generated within the device.

“WELLSCTI is rolling out a portfolio of standard, low cost, quick delivery, thermal control systems to help customers with simple, easy to install solutions for the accurate control of devices during test at temperature,” said Chris Lopez, Manager of the WELLS-CTI Thermal Products Group. “This is a general solution which will be customized using our TCU Change Kit for a customer’s specific package dimensions. The control and data collection associated with the “TCU-View” software will allow customers to document the temperature of their devices during test, not just the air around the device.”

Enhancing the performance of the thermal control head, WELLS-CTI is introducing Positive Pressure Displacement (PPD) Technology, an integrated condensation control system which eliminates, or significantly reduces, frosting during test at temperatures below zero and the subsequent problems of water on the test board.

Also being introduced, to help customers visualize the system and see it in operation, is a live demonstration capability which will be set-up with customers via a webcam at the WELLS-CTI Phoenix facility.

WELLS-CTI CEO, Matt Bergeron added, “Chris and the entire thermal team in Phoenix Az. are to be congratulated for translating customer feedback and requirements into such an innovative package of mechanical hardware, integrated control electronics and software. Customers are enthusiastic about the capabilities and simplicity of this solution and I look forward to the increased sales and revenue from this addition to our product portfolio.”
